I Want to Adopt From…[FacePalm Saturday]

Haiti in 2025. This is a very stupid case. So, here we go…

Haiti

Well, Haiti has an adoption notice on the Department of State website. See here .

It says on March 22, 2024 the following:

“The Department of State is working as quickly as possible to identify options for continued case processing and assisted departure for Haitian children in the intercountry adoption process, while meeting the criteria established by U.S. regulations and the Hague Adoption Convention. We understand and share your concerns about the safety of adoptive children in Haiti.

We ask adoptive families to stay in close contact with their adoption service providers and respond quickly to any requests for information.  We will communicate updates through emails from adoption@state.gov.

Currently, U.S. Embassy Port-au- Prince is working with diminished staff and will be very limited in operations due to security concerns near the Embassy.  The Embassy is limited in its ability to provide emergency services and consular services to U.S. citizens in Haiti at this time.  Please enroll in our Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive important information about safety conditions and Embassy closures.

The Department of State’s Travel Advisory for Haiti has been at Level 4 – Do Not Travel since March 2020. U.S. citizens should not travel to Haiti, and those in Haiti should depart immediately using commercial or other private transportation options when available and safe to do so.

U.S. citizens in Haiti who wish to record their presence should provide updated contact information on our crisis intake form.”

So for this couple Joseph and Stephanie Scaramuzzo, I am sorry, you don’t meet the requirements.

“The Scaramuzzos’ case is a bit different because it involves adoptions which have different requirements. Formica called on the churches to get more involved in what’s happening at the border and in affected countries. “

How about contacting the Department of State instead of going through churches, because that is the law? But no, they decided to do the following: “They heard in addition to taking the app offline there was an order to eliminate the humanitarian parole program they had applied under.

They’re reached out to U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenhal, D-Conn., to get confirmation and explore other types of visas, Scaramuzzo said. “

Excuse me? Humanitarian parole or other types of visas? Just because you met orphans who reside in a war-torn nation does not mean you can adopt them.

He “had registered the girls years ago for Meriden [CT] schools and went to the embassy in Port-Au-Prince armed with documents. He was grilled repeatedly.

“Anytime I stumbled, I was denied,” Scaramuzzo said.” What? You registered them in an American school while they were residing in Haiti?

‘Nuff said.
