How Could You? Hall of Shame-Skyler Evans

From Fairbanks, Alaska, former teacher and foster parent was”arrested for sexual abuse of a minor appeared on charges Tuesday afternoon [March 4, 2025] in a Fairbanks courtroom.”

“In a statement, FPD Public Information Officer Teal Soden said Skyler Evans, 33, was arrested and charged with three counts of first-degree sexual abuse of a minor.

According to the police complaint, the victim was a foster care child in Evans’ care at the time of the abuse.”

“Police said the offenses took place in 2021 and 2022.

A spokesperson from the Office of Children’s Services told Alaska’s News Source that Evans was a licensed foster care provider from June 1, 2021, through Nov. 7, 2022.”

“Evans, Fairbanks Police said, was an employee with the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District during the time when police said the allegations took place. Alaska News Source has reached out to the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District for comment, including asking how long Evans was a district employee, but had not heard back at the time of publication.”

“According to the police complaint, Evans was the victim’s eighth-grade teacher at Tanana Middle School. He allegedly started to tutor the victim outside the classroom when they told him they would be rehomed soon from their foster home. Police said Evans told the victim he was applying for a foster care license with his wife so they could foster them.

The documents say the victim moved into the Evans’ home between May and June 2021, where they say the victim told police they had a normal living situation with Evans for a year.

The victim told police sexual abuse started in June of 2022, when Evans started to sleep in the same bed, and alleged the sexual abuse continued at Hutchison High School.

That’s when the victim told police self-harm started. Evans’ wife, the documents say, looked in the victim’s bedroom and found a letter from Evans to the victim, which he allegedly wrote to the victim explaining his feelings to them. Evans’ wife then allegedly called the Office of Children’s Services, leading to the victim being taken out of Evans’ care.”

“The victim moved back to North Pole with their mother, but told police they went back to Evans’ house to take showers, where the abuse continued.

Detectives, the documents said, were made aware of the allegations in September 2024 and interviewed the victim in January. It was made clear to the detectives that the victim and Evans were still communicating with each other via Snapchat and text messaging, according to the complaint.

During the investigation, police were made aware of a conversation between Evans and the victim about their relationship and possible photos that Evans had at one point.

Detectives arrested Evans Tuesday morning and asked him about the victim. In the complaint, police said Evans told them he and his wife did foster the victim; however, six months after they split, he contacted OCS and initiated for the victim to return to their mother because “he was not in a place to further care” for them.”

“The detective then asked about Evans’ experience fostering the victim, but Evans requested a lawyer.

Soden said the investigation is ongoing, and detectives are looking to identify any additional victims.

Evans also previously worked as an evening news host for KTVF from May of 2023 through November of 2024.

“Due to the sensitive nature of the incident, we won’t be releasing any other information,” Soden said in the statement.”
