Adoptive Teenager Allegedly Kills Adoptive Mother UPDATED

The body of Spring Weems, 49, “was found in a trash can outside a home near Bryant and Simmons Road along Treviso Trail, according to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.”

“A teenager, who has not been identified because he is a juvenile, was booked into a Canadian County detention center on a first-degree murder complaint in connection to Weems’ death. While the crime happened in Logan County, he was taken to Canadian County because that is the closest juvenile corrections center, according to OSBI.

OSBI said that authorities were called to the scene after a welfare check was requested. They said they did not know who called 911.

“When the 911 call was made for that welfare check, when deputies showed up to the house, there were only those two teens there,” McKee said.

When deputies arrived, they found two teenagers inside the home. They also located Weems’ body in a trash can along the side of the street, and she had injuries consistent with homicide.

“When deputies continued to talk with them and learned maybe what had occurred, they pieced together the woman was not there. When they looked for her, they found her in that trash can in front of the property,” McKee said.

Officials could not say what those injuries were or what type of weapon was used.

“One of the parties involved made a statement saying, ‘Mom is in the trash can,’” Logan County Undersheriff Troy Dykes said on Wednesday.

The only people living in the home were Weems and the two teenagers. She was the sole caretaker of the children, according to OSBI.

OSBI said the teenager who was arrested was the only person believed to be connected to the murder.

Investigators said they are still in the process of interviewing neighbors.

“We’re not going to go into specifics with the injuries right now, but we can say that that is still a part of our process, and so when we learn more form the Medical Examiner’s Office, we will provide that to you guys,” McKee said.”

Spring “boasted about their accomplishments on social media and would frequent their high school wrestling matches, her public Facebook posts revealed.

The family are also believed to have been parishioners at the non-denominational evangelical Life Church.

Weems publicly shared her faith in God on social media.

Just ten days ago, she wrote a review calling out a Christian food pantry for alleged poor treatment of a homeless person.

Describing the incident as ‘absolutely heartbreaking to witness as a Christian’, she told the shop: ‘You will answer to Our Father God in the end of ur life for not only the homeless you shunned & refused to help, but for EVERY SOUL that your actions turned away from Christ bc this was the “example” you left. I’ll pray for you.’

In July 2020, amid a summer of nationwide protests sparked by the killing of George Floyd, Weems penned a Facebook post highlighting God’s goodness.

‘If we all look outside right now God is showing everyone up this 4th!’ she posted, accompanied by a video of a lightning storm.

‘Maybe, just maybe HE is saying children of mine… STOP! Stop your fighting, each and every one of you ARE MY children, red, brown, yellow, black or white EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU ARE PRECIOUS IN MY SIGHT!!!’

Weems shared that as a parent, she taught her children not to fight and to love each other.

‘Our FATHER wants the same for us, so tomorrow let’s reflect on UNITY, as we are ALL brothers and sisters under the same Creator, & HE wants HIS children to live in harmony TOGETHER!’ she added.

Her family seemingly followed her journey in Christianity, with at least one son having been involved with Life Church’s youth ministry program Switch.

In April 2023, she shared how her son had gone to the church’s Color Wars games. The worship-focused event involves teams of youths competing in messy games using powdered or liquid paint.

Weems, sharing a photo of her paint-covered child, wrote: ‘They may come home dirty but they leave with a message of Faith, Community, Accountability, Camaraderie, Leadership & Moral Compass in their/our difficult teen years.’

The Daily Mail has approached Life Church for comment.

Authorities have not released the name or age of the suspected murderer, but did confirm he lived in the home with Weems.

But Logan County Undersheriff Troy Dykes previously told the Daily Mail earlier Thursday that the teenagers involved in the fight were aged 16 and 17.”

REFORM Puzzle Piece

UPDATE:“The 16-year-old adopted son,Jordan Cole Weems, of a Logan County woman whose body was found earlier this week in a trash can has been charged as an adult in her death after he reportedly admitted to killing her.”

The biological son and the adopted son “were being punished for running away by having to write apology letters, and Jordan reportedly had his clothes and bedding locked away. The affidavit states that the 16-year-old adopted son was made to wear an orange jumpsuit “to show him what life as a prisoner might be like if he did not start behaving.”

“His brother told investigators that Jordan said several times over days leading to the interview that the 16-year-old told him that “he was going to kill their mother,” according to the affidavit.

One of Spring Weems’ biological children, whose name was not released, went to the home on Tuesday and noticed that she was not at home. He asked Jordan where she was, and he replied that she had left to help his sister with her new baby, according to the affidavit.

The child said the next day his mother had still not come home, wasn’t answering her phone and her car was in the driveway. He called his father to come over to the home “because something was not right,” according to the affidavit.

The boy’s father came over, and Jordan told him the same story about his adoptive mother leaving to help his sister. The affidavit says the father reached out to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office to report that Spring Weems was missing.

After deputies left, the father talked to one of the adopted children alone “because he was acting like he knew something and was scared,” according to the affidavit. The boy told him that Jordan had “killed Spring with a hammer and she was in the trash can at the street.”

Jordan was taken into custody on Wednesday and agreed to an interview with Logan County investigators.

During the interview, Jordan reportedly admitted to killing Spring Weems after “getting a hammer from the garage” and waiting until Weems came out of the home’s kitchen where “he struck her in the head with the hammer,” according to the affidavit.

Investigators said Jordan continued to strike Weems “until she wasn’t moving anymore” and then placed her body in a trash can. The teenager then said he “rolled it to the curb at the end of the driveway,” according to the affidavit.

Jordan was charged on Friday in Logan County on one count of first-degree murder, desecration of a human corpse and unauthorized removal of a dead body, court records show.

In a motion filed to deny bail for Jordan, the Logan County District Attorney’s office said the killing was “not a crime of passion or an instantaneous decision.”

“Rather, the Defendant threated to kill his mother leading up to the crime. That he planned the killing by retrieving a hammer and laying in wait to surprise his mother in the middle of the night. When his mother came upon him unsuspecting, he attacked her viciously and brutally,” according to the court document.

District attorney officials also noted “he is better cared for and served in a juvenile a detention facility,” despite being charged as an adult, according to the court document.”
