Nepali Orphanage Bal Mandir in Need of Basic Supplies UPDATED
We have been given permission to post this request for help.
“Many of you are familiar with Bal Mandir, the largest orphanage in Nepal. Bal Mandir is run by NCO (Nepal Children’s Organization) which has a long history of financial crises and mismanagement.

A few years ago things seem to brighten when Mitrataa took over the management of a large part of Bal Mandir. Sadly this was not to be for the long term and Mitrataa left suddenly last month.
We (*) are getting disturbing information from different sides that the situation in Bal Mandir is extremely bad. We have uploaded an update on NCO that we received through diplomatic channels.

In this update you can read that children are deprived of basic food. The water supply we have installed and maintained was taken over by NCO/Mitrataa but is now no longer functional.
There is no milk or diapers for the babies.
It is obvious that immediate help is needed. Help for both the long term and short term is required. At this moment we want to help the children in Bal Mandir so they at least get their basic needs now.

Basic needs like food, medical care and diapers.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!If you are in a position that you have connections for helping Bal Mandir, please let us know.
If you willing to make a donation, you can make a transfer to our bank account in The Netherlands:

Anna Lena is the founder of Stiftelsen Unga Kvinnor I Nepal (SUKN) and Theo is co-founder of Foundation VONK Projects. Anna started the Nepal Girls Care Center (NGCC) in 1996 en VONK joined this project in 1999.

NGCC is where teenage girls stay when they leave Bal Mandir. NGCC gives them a future by providing them everything a child should receive in a family environment. This includes opportunities to go to college and even university.

Both organizations in Sweden and The Netherlands are run by volunteers who do not get any remuneration.

Update 2:

“NIC Foundation, the charity wing of NIC Bank and United Distributors Nepal, have handed over Rs 240,000 to Nepal Children´s Organization (Bal Mandir), Naxal.

A press release issued by the bank Monday said Ashok Agrawal, coordinator of NIC Foundation and Rajendra Agrawal, director of NIC Bank jointly handed over the amount to Reeta Shigh, chairperson of Nepal Children Organization.

The amount will be used to cover food expenses of Rs 20,000 a month for a year, according to the statement. On the occasion, Agrawal, on his personal initiation, provided pillow and quilt covers to the children. Besides, NIC Bank staffers have collected fund of Rs. 54,000 to support the organization. Bal Mandir has 140 children, ranging from 2 months to 16 years old, under its supervision.”

Update 3: Theo states “So far we are providing supplemental food on a daily basis. We try and provide the children (and some didi’s as well) with a balanced diet.
We also provided 250 cotton diapers.
And, I am happy to report, the water purification plant is up an running again – children have clean water.

We have funds for July and, stretching it, part of August as well.

Once again, many thanks to all”

Quote about adoption statistics: “In this Fiscal Year 2012/2013 Bal Mandir had Given 12 Domestic Adoption and 4 international adoption .””
