How Could You? Hall of Shame-New York Foster Child case
This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.
From Brooklyn, New York, ” A 6-year-old boy fell from the window of a second-floor Brooklyn apartment Sunday — on just his second day living with his new foster parents.
The child squirmed through a gap in the window’s safety bars and plummeted from his home on Schaefer St. near Knickerbocker Ave. in Bushwick just after 2 p.m., officials said.
The boy’s right arm was caught on the bars of a fence in front of the four-story brick apartment building, horrified witnesses said.
“He fell head-first,” said neighbor Yasmin Acevedo, 28. “I was trying to hold him down. There was too much blood.”
His foster dad, Eddie Vera, identified the boy as Nandy. He rushed downstairs and wrapped the boy’s mangled, bleeding arm in a towel before an ambulance arrived, witnesses said.
“The ambulance came, and he was still screaming,” said Yanira Castillo, 14.
The boy was rushed to Woodhull Hospital in stable condition with multiple cuts to his right arm, but no broken bones, police said.
His foster parents are not expected to be charged.
“He just got here yesterday — it takes time to adjust,” said foster dad Vera, 53. “They said he’s going to be okay and didn’t break anything. Thank God. We are relieved.””
