Russian Ombudsman Calls for Halt in Intercountry Adoptions until Bilateral Agreements to Regulate Adoptions are Signed
In an interview with Rossiiskaya Gazeta daily on Wednesday, Russia’s children’s rights ombudsman Pavel Astakhov declared that adoptions should be halted until bilateral agreements are signed. In addition to the latest abuse case of Christoph Bigley, the 17 children who have died from abuse in the US as well as the case of Justin Hansen who was sent back on a plane to Russia last year were mentioned.
