How Could You? Hall of Shame-Denmark Foster Care

This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.

From Denmark, “The Danish foster parents in what has become known as the Mern case have been found guilty of abusing nine children in their care between 1990 and 2010.The woman has been sentenced to two years in Jail, while the man will serve two years and six months.

The case first came to light in December 2009 after a 17-year-old foster child ran away and told a friend about the abuse. In January this year, another child came forward to say she and her brother were locked up in the South Zealand house, sometimes for days on end without food.

The couple, however, deny the allegations and say they will appeal to a higher court. They claim the children were violent and that their claims are pure fabrications.

Following the outcome of the four-month trial, the parents have been ordered to pay the victims compensation, and have been banned from working with children under the age of 18.”

  1. Their prison sentence does not represent the seriousness of the long-term damage these people have caused nor even represent the deceit they carried on. Why would others be deterred from assaulting, abusing and neglecting children in their charge??
