Facebook Reunion in Indiana

“Facebook helps people stay connected and reconnect all over the world and one Evansville woman used it to find her biological mother 22 years after she gave her up for adoption.

Teresa Brock brought her adopted daughter, Whitney, home from the hospital in 1991.

Albums filled with picture after picture of happy faces and a mother and daughter bond, but even as happy as Whitney is with her adopted family, she’s always wondered who her birth mother was.

“I was just like, I wonder what my biological family is doing right now,” said Whitney Brock. “Do they care about me? Do they miss me?,” she said.

So she went to Facebook hearing of people making posts looking for their biological parents, and thought she’d do the same.

“So many people were sharing it, liking it, commenting on it,” said Whitney.

One of the messages was from a woman in Florida, who did some research and gave Whitney a list of five possible phone numbers for her biological mom.

“I called the very first number that was on there,” said Whitney. A woman answered. “I said I know this sounds crazy, but is there any way you put a baby up for adoption in 1991. And she said, on February 6th? I said yes, and she said is this Whitney Brock? I said yes. She said hi Whitney. I’m your mother.”

“It’s like winning the lottery. Better than winning the lottery,” said Jennifer Moorhead, Whitney’s biological mom.

Jennifer lives in Gary, Indiana, and was looking at Whitney’s post right as the phone rang.

“And I just started to cry,” said Jennifer. “I couldn’t believe she was trying to find me. I was so happy,” she said.

Just a week later, they finally met after 22 years at Stoll’s Amish Buffet.

“I looked at her and was like, she really does look like me,” said Whitney.

“I could not believe how much she looks like me,” said Jennifer. “She walks like me.”

“Just listening to her speak, the phrases she uses, like, it reminds me of things I would say,” said Whitney.

The reunion was short, but the meeting has changed all their lives.

“I know it’s something she’s always wanted,” said Teresa Brock.

The families plan to stay in touch and already have plans to meet next month.”
