How Could You? Hall of Shame-Jordan Gorman case

From Cheatham County, Tennessee, adoptive mother, Collete Gorman and adoptive brother, Alvin Jensen “were arrested for the [child abuse] charges [of a nine-year-old boy] in Cheatham County on Wednesday[September 8, 2021], according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. ”

“Gorman, 66, was the adoptive mother of Jordan Gorman, who was reported missing back in November 2020.The law enforcement agency eventually issued an Endangered Child Alert for Jordan on Nov. 15, 2020 before issuing an AMBER Alert for him the next day.

Jordan was ultimately found safe two days later on November 17 by search crews after the boy built a shack by a creek. The child constructed the structure about a mile away from his home with a tarp he found, he told authorities.

An investigation into the family showed that Gorman and Jensen often mistreated her adopted children, with Jordan fleeing the home to escape the abuse, according to WKRN.

The outlet reports that a Cheatham County grand jury indicted Gorman on six counts of aggravated child abuse, neglect and endangerment, while Jensen was hit with one count of the same offense.

Meanwhile, Gorman is being held on $550,000 bond while Jensen on $100,000 bond.

News 2 was at the Cheatham County jail as Gorman turned herself in and declined to offer a comment while covering her face from the news cameras.

Meanwhile, Jensen was brought into the jail in handcuffs, telling the outlet ‘I don’t really know what’s going on’ when asked for comment.

Cheatham County Sheriff Mike Breedlove described the allegations and subsequent child abuse charges among the worst he’s seen in his law enforcement career, saying the abuse appeared to have gone on for a long time before expressing relief over the relatively happy ending over the boy’s safe return.

There was quite a bit of evidence that there was quite a bit of physical abuse occurring in the household over a period of time…that was one of these cases had such a happy ending. We were able to locate and bring him back, but with that it opened up whole another level of investigation,’ the sheriff told News 2.

Gorman’s husband was not charged alongside his wife and biological son, with the sheriff saying there is no evidence to suggest his culpability.

Jordan’s biological father, Aaron Hatt, told WKRN that the child had entered into the foster care system about two years ago when he went missing last year, and that his son now has a new last name.

It’s still unclear as of Thursday morning where Jordan will be placed following the arrests of his foster mother and brother
