From Staunton, Virginia,”Two parents lost custody of their foster child after pleading guilty to alleged child abuse in Augusta County Circuit Court.

Cynthia Carroll pleaded guilty a few weeks ago and Eugene Parker Jr. plead guilty last week, according to the Commonwealth’s Attorney, Tim Martin.

“In broad terms they were charged with child abuse, mostly for emotional abuse of a foster child,” said Martin.

Martin said this was a sad case, but the child did not have to come back for a trial.

“The best part about this outcome for use is that the child, who is doing very well did not have to come back and relive those moments in live in court testimony that would have been required if it would have been a trial,” said Martin.

Carroll pleaded guilty to a felony charge and Parker pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor.

“She has no criminal history at all and she has spent a better part of year has already been spent in jail and will continue to serve an entire year,” Martin added, “She was the primary so his plea was for misdemeanor and will serve 45 days.”

Martin said that emotional abuse is still abuse.

“It does not have to be physical, it does not have to be sexual, those are the things we think about most times, certainty components of physical abuse in this but the primary was the emotional suffering and that is abuse. the sheriffs department here and the commonwealth’s attorneys office will make the sure the people who do that, pay for it,” said Martin.”
