How Could You? Hall of Shame-2-Year-Old Foster Child case-Child Death

From Eureka, California, foster mother Ashley Pearce-Piffrerini, “is facing two grave charges: murder and assault on a child causing death, both stemming from the November 2021 death of a two-year-old foster child who had been under her care and custody.

Humboldt County District Attorney, Stacey Eads, told Redheaded Blackbelt that Pearce-Piffrerini was taken into custody last Thursday morning at her Eureka residence. Her arrest, DA Eads stated, followed an intensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the young child’s death, which reportedly occurred on November 23, 2021. The arrest was carried out by DA Investigators with assistance from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office. Since her arrest, Pearce-Piffrerini has been held at the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on Ramey Warrants, allowing for her detention pending arraignment without requiring immediate charges.

DA Eads explained that Pearce-Piffrerini faces two felony counts: violation of Penal Code section 187(a) for murder and Penal Code section 273ab(a) for assault on a child causing death. Each charge is serious, with Penal Code 273ab(a) specifically addressing cases involving severe harm to children under eight by someone responsible for their care.

Pearce-Piffrerini has long been known in the community as someone who battled immense health challenges. Living with cystic fibrosis, a chronic illness affecting the lungs and digestive system, her medical journey has been one of resilience and community support. Her arrest has cast a shadow over those memories, leaving many residents grappling with the disconnect between the person they know and the serious charges she now faces.

At this time, the specifics leading up to the child’s death in 2021 have not been disclosed as this is an active case.

Pearce-Piffrerini’s arraignment is scheduled for today, Tuesday, November 12 in Humboldt County Superior Court.”
