Moroccans Arrested for Illegal Adoption of Baby in Italy
This occurred in March 2025.
“Italian police in Turin have arrested four Moroccan nationals, including a married couple, on suspicion of smuggling a baby girl from Morocco into Italy in a shopping bag ,
with the intent to sell her to a new family.
Local Italian media reported that the infant, believed to be only two months old, arrived in Italy undocumented. An investigation was launched after police received a tip-off. It revealed that the baby, named Aisha, was born last August and arrived in Italy hidden inside a shopping bag in October.
The investigation led to the arrest of a Moroccan couple residing in the Piedmont region, as well as two other Moroccan citizens suspected of facilitating the baby’s illegal entry into Italy and obstructing the police investigation.
The case came to light after a tip was reported to the Turin Public Prosecutor’s Office, alleging that a Moroccan couple was harboring an infant with the intention of selling her.
According to reports, the couple concealed the infant during a long and arduous journey. Upon arrival in Turin, they were forced to take the baby to the hospital for medical check-ups due to her condition.
Investigators believe the couple then enlisted the help of two other Moroccan nationals to care for the baby while they searched for a family willing to buy her. The complex investigation led to the identification and arrest of the suspects. The baby has been placed in Regina Margherita Hospital while authorities seek a foster family for her.
The investigation revealed that Aisha was handed over by her biological mother to the couple, who then transported her to Italy illegally. Authorities have launched a full investigation to determine responsibilities and punish those involved in the alleged crime.”
