How Could You? Hall of Shame-7-Month-Old Foster Son case-Child Death

This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.

From Monterey, Tennessee, foster grandmother, Linda Charles Stevens, 69, “has been charged with criminally negligent homicide after an infant was found dead earlier this month in a hot car in Putnam County.

“Office announced earlier this month that a foster grandmother had allegedly left a 7-month-old infant in her car before heading into the Monterey Branch Library.”

“Dunaway said Stevens was an employee at the Monterey Branch Library and that she left the child in her car when she went inside to start her workday on April 15 [2026] at 8 a.m.

“Linda Charlene Stevens placed the child and his car seat in the backseat of her vehicle; she secured the car seat with the belt buckle,” the district attorney said. “Linda Charlene Stevens admitted that her plan was to drop the child off at his daycare, but she did not.”

The baby was left locked in her car seat until about 4 p.m., when a family member called Stevens to ask about the child’s whereabouts, according to Dunaway. That’s when the 7-month-old was found dead inside the vehicle.

Stevens was booked into the Putnam County Jail on Friday morning, and she is being held on a $50,000 bond.”
