How Could You? Hall of Shame-Melanie Trahan case-Child Death

This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.

From Beauregard Parish, Louisiana, foster child,  Melanie Trahan, 18-months-old, died on July 26, 2026. Her death was “believed to have been caused by abuse, according to Beauregard authorities.”

“Melanie Trahan had brain hemorrhaging in several areas that were in different stages of healing when she was brought to a Beauregard hospital on July 21, according to Sylvester Denmond, chief of investigations for the Beauregard Sheriff’s Office.

Trahan was transferred to a Baton Rouge hospital, where she died Sunday morning, Denmond said.

No arrests have been made, but the investigation is ongoing.”

The Beauregard Sheriff’s Office, the Calcasieu Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Child and Family Services are investigating.
