How Could You? Hall of Shame-John Kelley

This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.

From Amelia, Ohio, “a Clermont County judge sentences an adoptive father to three years in prison for harming his nine-year-old adopted son.

46-year-old John Kelley was convicted on charges of child endangering and felonious assault.

The Amelia man and his wife adopted their foster son almost a year ago. The courtroom was packed with children’s services workers on one side and Kelley’s supporters from church on the other.

The boy suffers from post traumatic stress disorder after witnessing domestic violence in his biological home. He threw tantrums and urinated in the Kelley home when he got angry.

Kelley took the boy to a local Kroger and forced him to wear a sign. It read “I pee on my family if I don’t get my way.”

He also severely beat the boy with a belt and a paddle to the point where he couldn’t sit down. The abuse began days after the adoption was final. Kelley faced a maximum of eight years in prison. ”
