How Could You? Hall of Shame-Steven Heath Holden

From Lauderdale County,Alabama, “Limestone County DHR employee and foster parent, [Steven Heath Holden ] is facing multiple child sex abuse charges.”

Steven “is in the Lauderdale County Detention Center on a $1 million bond after he was charged with four counts of sexual abuse of a minor less than 12 years old.

District Attorney Angie Hamilton confirmed 53-year-old Holden is a foster parent in Lauderdale County , the county where he is charged with sexual abuse. And that he was an employee with the Limestone County Department of Human Resources around the time of his arrest. Adding that his role was as a case tech.

Case techs can supervise visitations, do paperwork and even drive children to court without supervision, according to our sources. What we don’t know is who the victim was to Holden. But it is unclear if or how he knew the victim.

Hamilton said an eyewitness caught Holden in the act about two weeks ago and immediately called law enforcement.

Investigators say they interviewed the young child, who revealed multiple incidents of abuse over an extended period.

After the initial investigation, police arrested him Friday, Sept. 18.

His preliminary hearing will be October 5.

Attorney Drew Sockwell is a family services attorney who has dealt with DHR cases in Lauderdale County for six years so he says he understand how the system works. Sockwell says this arrest could impact DHR cases Holden worked.

“I mean this could affect potential adoptions that were done, not just custody matters,” Sockwell explained. “Or if there was a termination of parental rights that was done this could potentially affect all of that if this gentleman was somehow involved in any of those cases.”

He says that DHR will have to do their own internal investigation.

“Depending on the allegations or how it was alleged to occur, that information they’ll likely take that information and determine whether that type of behavior could have happened in other instances or other cases that he may have been a part of,” Sockwell said.
