From Raleigh, North Carolina, Nathan Blackmon was “sentenced to prison for an impaired-driving crash that killed a woman and seriously injured her adopted son just before Christmas in 2024.

Nathane Blackmon pleaded guilty Wednesday to involuntary manslaughter and assault with a deadly weapon.”

“Blackmon was driving on N. Roxboro Street when he crossed the middle line, striking Dawn Tucker’s vehicle head-on. Tucker was killed, and her adopted son, Joey, who has Down Syndrome, suffered fractured ribs and sternum.

Nearly two dozen supporters attended Wednesday’s hearing, wearing red in honor of Joey’s favorite color.

Tucker’s friend, Karen Carlton, has since taken over guardianship of Joey.”

“Blackmon was sentenced to 33 to 39 months in prison, with credit for time already served. He has been in jail since April 2025.”
