Lawsuit: Turning Point Residential Services and Lucas County Children Services-Child Death
“The family of a child who died after being hit while riding a bike in Toledo has filed a wrongful death lawsuit in Lucas County.
The suit names Turning Point Residential Services and Lucas County Children Services.
It accuses the defendants of negligence and recklessly failing to supervise 11-year-old De’Vonte Bailey while he was in a group home.
The family says proper staffing, oversight and safety protocols would have prevented Bailey from being left unsupervised at the time he was hit and killed while riding his bike last year.
Lucas County Children Services responded to our request for comment on the lawsuit, saying that the agency does not operate or license any group homes.
“Lucas County Children Services does not have a contract with Turning Point as a placement provider for children,” the statement from LCCS read in part. “Lucas County Children Services strictly denies the allegations asserted by the Plantiff in the matter and be working with the Lucas County Civil Prosecutor’s Office to file the appropriate pleadings to defend the lawsuit.”
13 Action News also reached out Turning Point Residential Services for comment. We have yet to hear back. The organization’s response will be added to this article once provided.”
