How Could You? Hall of Shame-Infant Foster Child case-Child Death

This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.

From Huntington, Texas, “a 2-month-old girl has died at an East Texas home as the woman with whom she was living ran an errand and left several other adults to watch the baby.

The Angelina County Sheriff’s Department says an autopsy was scheduled Monday on the infant, whose name wasn’t immediately released.

Sheriff Greg Sanches says an initial review indicates the baby apparently died of natural causes.

Sanches says the woman in whose care the child was entrusted had to pick someone up Saturday and left the sleeping child in the care of several family friends at a home near Huntington. One of the adults checked on the girl, noticed she wasn’t breathing and called 911.

Child Protective Services has been notified.

Huntington is about 120 miles northeast of Houston.”

“Angelina County Sheriff Greg Sanches says the 2 month old was found unresponsive after her foster mother put her down for a nap.

The child lived in a foster home on County Road 302 south east of Huntington.

She was in the care of several adults at the time.

“At this time we did investigate the scene, talk to people, interrogate people and we ordered an autopsy and we are waiting on the results from the doctor,” Sanches said.

No one is in custody at this time.

Sheriff Sanches says the sheriff’s department is waiting on the results from the autopsy to do anything further.”

  1. Um… unless it emerges that one of the “adults” she left the baby with was a known child abuser, I don’t see how the foster mother could be faulted here. Lots of competent and loving mothers use baby sitters if they need to run errands (or just need a brief mental vacation).
