How Could You? Hall of Shame-Glenda and Stacy Griffin UPDATED

This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.

From Garden City, Kansas, foster parents Glenda Griffin ,40,  and Stacy Griffin,47,  “are now behind bars arrested on suspicion of abuse of foster children in a case that spans years.”

““Discipline is one thing, but the physical abuse that was alleged to have occurred is criminal,” said Captain Randy Ralston, Garden City Police Department.

The investigation began back in April when the Department of Children and Families forwarded them a tip.

After a four month investigation, police said the issue goes back to 2008 and allegedly involves eight foster children.

Now Glenda Griffin, a social worker, is arrested on nine counts of suspected abuse of a child and one count of suspected aggravated child endangerment.

Stacy Griffin is arrested on two counts of suspected abuse of a child.

The DCF says the Griffins, like all foster parents in Kansas, underwent background checks and health screenings when they became foster parents.

The agency takes the allegation very seriously.

“As soon as we hear those sorts of allegations, to look into the matter promptly and ensure that the children are in a safe environment as soon as possible,” said Theresa Freed, DCF Director of Communications.

The two were arrested last week.

Police say none of the foster kids were in their care when the arrests were made.

“It’s a bad deal all the way around, because these children obviously to be placed in foster care are dealing with some sort of traumatic incident, or something happened in their life already,” said Ralston.

Both remain in jail.

Glenda Griffin on a $300,000 bond and Stacy Griffin on a $100,000 bond.”

Update: “Glenda and Stacy Griffin appeared in court Thursday morning via webcam from their separate jail cells. They’re charged with abusing eight foster children in their care.

Glenda Griffin is charged with nine counts of child abuse and one count of child endangerment. She wiped tears and got emotional during the court proceeding. The accused foster mom is also a case manager at a mental hospital and operated her own day care up until 1999. Her bond was initially set at $300,000 which the couple’s attorney argued was unreasonably high.

The same was argued for Stacy Griffin, who is charged with two counts of child abuse. His bond was initially $100,000.

Finney County Attorney Susan Richmeier said those amounts were fitting. “These people were entrusted with children from across the state as foster parents, and that is an extreme trust that the state has placed in them that was breached.”

In the short hearing, Judge Pierce substantially lowered the couple’s bond amounts, making it easier for them to get out of jail.  He said the pair did not pose an immediate threat to the public, and they are not a flight risk.

Glenda Griffin’s bond set at $60,000. It is a $240,000 drop. Stacy Griffin’s bond was dropped to $30,000 Both were given the condition that they not make contact with any of the children named in the case. “If there is any contact at all with any of those children, that will revoke your bond, and it’ll be raised up again,” said Judge Ricklin Pierce, Finney County.

The pair is expected to be back in court September 29th.”
