Two Teenage Girls Face Arson Charges in a Group Home in Canada
“Two teenage girls are facing arson charges after a suspicious fire that began inside a second-floor bedroom of a Chedoke Avenue group home.
Three people — two girls who are residents and a worker — were taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation, said Hamilton police spokesperson Debbie McGreal-Dinning.
A 14-year-old girl and 15-year-old girl are facing arson, endangering life charges in relation to the fire at …, a Hill Program group home for young people with acquired brain injury.
The 15-year-old is also facing a breach of probation charge.
The girls were held for a bail hearing, McGreal-Dinning said.
The fire, which started around 11:30 p.m. on Monday, caused $20,000 damage — largely from smoke and water on two storeys of the home. The home is between Aberdeen Avenue and Hillcrest Avenue, just east of Chedoke Golf Course.
The Hamilton police Arson Unit is investigating and holding the scene, making the building off limits to residents and staff.
The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has been contacted for help determining the cause, said Hamilton Fire spokesperson Claudio Mostacci.
He couldn’t comment further, citing the investigation. A woman who answered the phone at Hill Program’s main office on Queen Street South declined to comment.”
