Adoptive Parents Who Break Promises to Original Families

The family of Madonna’s adopted Malawian daughter is threatening to take legal action for the broken promise to have her visit her original family. Not only did Mercy’s grandmother and uncles (who placed her in the orphanage after her mother’s death) believe that they would have regular contact with her, they also believed Mercy would come back to Malawi to live with them when she became an adult.

The proposed school that Madonna has promised to build has yet to be erected.

Similar stories of original families experiencing broken promises have been reported in Ethiopia and other countries.
