How Could You? Hall of Shame-Gregory Beauchamp
This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.
From Nashville, Tennessee, foster parent and special education teacher’s assistant, Gregory Beauchamp, “has been placed on leave after being arrested in Murfreesboro last week on child abuse charges.
Gregory Beauchamp is accused of physically assaulting a teenager he fosters.
“It’s just hard to say,” said Emma Moriarty, an Overton High student. “It’s so shocking you don’t really know what to say.”
Parents were equally shocked.
“I think that’s outrageous and crazy,” parent Sammy Alsadi said.
At the Guidance Center for Behavioral Health in Murfreesboro last Thursday, police arrested Beauchamp after he was accused of assaulting a 17-year-old boy in his foster care.
According to an incident report, the teenager was upset and refused to get out of the car when Beauchamp began yelling. Beauchamp then allegedly struck the teen on the arm and the back of the head before physically pulling him out of the vehicle.
Police said the teen began kicking in an attempt to defend himself.
“Through the investigation and witness statements, it was found that the adult was the primary aggressor and he was arrested for child abuse,” said Officer Amy Norville with Murfreesboro police.
Guidance center workers also told police that Beauchamp yelled at and berated the teenager inside the building.
“They said the adult was verbally aggressive toward the teen,” Norville said.
Beauchamp did not notify the Overton High principal of his arrest. He has been placed on administrative leave with pay.
Metro Schools spokesman Joe Bass released a statement saying in part, “Student safety is always our number one priority and we will continue following these charges to determine any further steps that may need to be taken.”
Beauchamp is a teacher’s assistant for exceptional education students, or special education. The 17-year-old is not a student at Overton High, school officials said.
Alsadi said educators are held to a higher standard and the arrest shows Beauchamp doesn’t belong in a classroom.
“I can’t believe a teacher would do something like that who should be a role model for students here,” he said.
Channel 4 reached out to Beauchamp by phone. He said once the entire situation is looked at, he is confident the charges will be dropped.”
