How Could You? Hall of Shame-Scotland-Monajonida Mall

This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.

From Lanarkshire, Scotland, foster mother, “Monajonida Mall, 56, battered four children she had responsibility for over an 11-year period.

One of the infants was only one-year-old when Mall began abusing her between April 1999 and September 2006.

Mall and her husband Zenas, 62, a former psychiatric nurse, had both been put on trial to face a catalogue of complaints but he walked free from Hamilton Sheriff Court after the case against him collapsed.

But his wife was convicted by a jury of four charges involving three boys and one girl, in less than an hour following a two week trial.

Mall, of Newmains, Lanarkshire, had denied claims she repeatedly abused a young girl by striking her on the head and body to her injury at her home.

She also denied a charge she attacked two boys in her care by seizing them by the ears and lifting them off the ground at her home between 2004 and 2010.

The jury also convicted her on a final charge of attacking a three-year-old boy by punching him on the head and pulling his body between August and December 2007.

The court had earlier heard a police interview tape with Mall who denied any wrong doing and claimed the allegations against her were false.

She said: “I do not know where this has all come from, I don’t know why this is being said about me.

“I have done nothing wrong.”

Her husband refused to answer any questions put to him by officers during his interview which was also played to the jury.

Following the end of Crown evidence, depute fiscal Natalie Henderson said she was accepting Zenas Mall’s not guilty pleas to all 10 charges he faced which included one of making a young girl repeatedly eat her dinner off a kitchen floor.

It was also claimed he had locked her in her bedroom and refused to allow her access to a toilet.

He had also faced allegations of causing unnecessary suffering to a boy, who had moved in with them aged two, by forcing him to sit on an outside step.

His wife also faced the same claims but they were also dropped.

Sheriff Shiona Waldron deferred sentence on Mall until next month for reports and allowed her to remain on bail.

She refused to comment.”
