Surrogacy: Thai Baby Breeding Ring Broken Up

An international surrogacy operation called Baby 101 has been shut down and 14 Vietnamese women, 7 still pregnant, have been freed. Orders would be received by email or by agents and sometimes the male would provide sperm.

Nine women were there voluntarily as they received $5,000 per child. Four others were tricked. One woman was found at the hospital and had just given birth. They were kept in two Bangkok houses. Their passports were confiscated. Customers were charged $32,000.

“[F]our Taiwanese, one Chinese and three Myanmar nationals were arrested in connection with the business and charged with illegally working in Thailand.

A 35-year-old Taiwanese woman, who police said ran the operation, was also charged with human trafficking.”
Since the Baby 101 website shows about 40 women, investigations continue in other locations to determine if there are more women being held.
