PRESS RELEASE:
On August 25, 2016, Sergeant Adam Scott with the West Virginia State Police Crimes Against Children Unit, arrested a 43 year old Kristina Singleton of Morgantown, for one felony count of child abuse resulting in injury. The victim was a seven year old female foster child residing in Singleton’s foster care home.
Sergeant Scott had received the findings of a WV DHHR Institutional Investigation Unit report where Singleton’s foster home had been investigated for abuse to the victim. The seven year old victim had severe bruising on her rib cage as well as her legs. Said bruising appeared to be in the shape of a belt. There was also a bruise on the victims leg in the shape of another unknown object. Several children in the home gave statements saying Singleton used belts, hands, flyswatters and plastics, wood and metal spoons to hit the children in the home. However, these children stated the seven year old victim received and was the focus of most the physical punishment. The children also stated they saw bruises on the victim after she was hit with a belt on her legs and back.
Despite the children’s statements, Singleton continued to lie to DHHR investigators saying she never used any physical discipline in the foster home.
During an interview with Sergeant Scott, Singleton again initially lied, saying she never used physical discipline on the children, she finally admitted to doing so, but not causing the victims injuries. Singleton agreed to take a polygraph examination which she failed in reference to causing the severe bruising to the victim. However, Singleton would not elaborate on her failed exam.
The accused was arraigned in Monongailia County Magistrate Court and placed on a $10,000 cash or surety bond. If anyone has any further information in reference to this investigation, please contact Sergeant Scott at 304-367-2701.”
