How Could You? Hall of Shame-Sean McIntosh UPDATED

This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.

From Racine, Wisconsin, foster father Sean McIntosh, 44, “admitted to shaking his 5-month-old foster child on March 29.”

He ” has been arrested and charged with physical abuse of a child .”

“Sean McIntosh, 44, of the …, admitted to shaking the child and was charged April 13 with abuse of a child causing great bodily harm, a felony.

Initially, the victim was placed in foster care due to a previous incident of abuse, a skull fracture, at a home in Union Grove, according to the Racine County Sheriff’s Office.

Mount Pleasant Police Lt. Scott Geyer said it is unfortunate that a child would endure so much alleged abuse at such a young age.

“It’s a tragedy,” Geyer said. “As adults we are charged with the responsibility of the safety and well being of all children. We remind ourselves everyday how important that is.”

According to the criminal complaint, a Children’s Hospital physician discovered new bleeding on the brain, retinal hemorrhaging and a new skull fracture when the child arrived at the hospital.

McIntosh turned himself into police earlier this month and was officially charged last week. He made his initial appearance in court Thursday and had his bond set at $1,500 cash and received a $23,500 signature bond as well, according to court records.

According to the complaint, McIntosh was playing with the child for two hours after his wife left for work. When the child became inconsolable, McIntosh said he “lost it” and shook the child four or five times.”

“Police said McIntosh told them he felt overwhelmed and had been working 12-hour days. He also admitted that he shook the child forcefully enough to “do damage.”

Racine County Human Services Department oversees the foster care for the county. Racine County Chief of Staff M.T. Boyle declined to comment, citing the county’s policy of not commenting on child abuse cases.

McIntosh has a previous conviction of battery in 1999.

If convicted of the new charge, McIntosh could see 25 years in prison and a $100,000 fine.

McIntosh is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on April 27 in Racine County Circuit Court.”
Foster parent arrested for shaking baby [Journal Times 4/21/17 by Jonathan Brines]

“After his wife went to work one afternoon last month, McIntosh was left to care for the baby and another foster child, age five. The baby started to fuss and wouldn’t calm down. That’s when McIntosh, by his own admission, shook the baby four or five times.

The next day, the baby appeared to be experiencing seizures.  Rescue was called. A doctor at Children’s Hospital diagnosed a set of new injuries.

The following day, McIntosh spoke to investigators and purportedly confessed.

According to online court records, McIntosh was convicted of misdemeanor battery some 18 years ago and was sentenced to 30 days in jail. The circumstances of that incident weren’t immediately clear.  ”
