Adopted Son Robs Parents and Is Arrested
“An Alabama man, 30, forced his adoptive parents to the floor at gunpoint and stole their prescription medication in an armed home invasion robbery.
Jamie Lee Meadows, 30, donned a mask so his parents wouldn’t recognize him when he broke into their Adger home with friends Roy Scott Jones, 28, of Adger; and Jamie Christopher Cowherd, 30, of Hueytown.
Marlene, 61, and Harold Meadows, 65, had been asleep in bed when the three men forced their way into the property at 4.30am on May 19.
Cops say the masked trio forced the terrified couple to the floor at gunpoint before they stole guns, jewelry and the medication.
Meadows didn’t speak during the robbery for fear his parents might hear him, police added.
The three men fled the scene but police were able to track them down after Cowherd was caught on a convenience store cameras using the victims’ credit card, Al.com reports.
Police then learned that both he and Meadows had been stopped together by local cops on outstanding warrants. They were both arrested in connection with the robbery.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Randy Christian said Meadows told them in his police interview that the other two suspects had forced him to show them where his parents lives but said he never took place in the robbery.
But investigators argued that Meadows had been the brains behind the robbery, and had enlisted the help of Cowherd and Jones.
Meadows later admitted to taking part in the crime.
Meadows is charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree robbery, first-degree theft of property and third-degree theft of property. He is in the Jefferson County Jail with bond set at $285,000.
Jones is charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree robbery, second-degree assault, first degree theft of property, second-degree theft of property and fraudulent use of a credit card. Police are still hunting for the suspect.
Cowherd is charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree robbery, second-degree assault, first-degree theft of property and second-degree theft of property. He is the Tuscaloosa County Jail on unrelated charges. He will be transferred to Jefferson County upon his release.
‘It’s kind of hard to accept that someone could do this to good folks that had taken him in. I guess that’s what drugs will do to your mind,” Christian said. ‘ At least I hope that’s the case. Our detectives ave worked hard on this case along with the Metro Area Crime Center and did an outstanding job of wrapping it up quickly.’ “
