From Australia, “a foster parent approved by Uniting has been charged with sexually assaulting a nine-year-old boy in his care.

It is alleged the 57-year-old man committed a number of acts over three years but his partner still has custody over four other foster children.

Seven News can reveal it is one of four cases of children in Uniting’s care suffering from abuse.

In 2013 a 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped at a Uniting residential facility before she overdosed and died in a separate facility a year later.

In 2015 a five-year-old Colyton boy died from severe burns and an alleged cocktail of drugs in his system.

While only last year a 60-year-old Uniting carer was charged with drugging and indecently assaulting a 14-year-old girl.

The Children’s Guardian is reassessing Uniting’s ability to provide care and Seven News understands it will investigate claims against Uniting’s management.

It is alleged management asked staff to backdate some records in order to pass accreditation and it is also claimed one Uniting case worker has not attended any home visits since last year while falsifying home visit records.

The 57-year-old man will be back in court next month to face five counts of aggravated indecent assault, and three counts of aggravated sexual assault.”
