How Could You? Hall of Shame-SW Miguel Garrido

This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.

From South Brunswick, New Jersey, a “township social worker is charged with sexually assaulting and smoking pot with a Highland Park juvenile under his care, the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office announced Saturday.

Miguel Garrido, 23, of Monmouth Junction faces multiple sexual assault counts including first degree aggravated sexual assault of a child under the age of 16, police said.

According to police, Garrido worked with the non-profit Coordinated Family Care firm in North Brunswick that provides assistance to youths and families in Middlesex County when the assaults took place at the victim’s home in Highland Park.

An investigation by Detective Ted Pardo of the Highland Park Police Department and Detective Deon McCall of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined that Garrido was acting as a case worker for the juvenile victim.

He was arrested and charged Friday with one count of aggravated sexual assault in the first degree, one count of sexual assault in the second degree, one count of aggravated criminal sexual contact in the third degree, one count of criminal sexual contact in the fourth degree, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child in the third degree; one count for the sexual assault and the second count for the use of marijuana with the victim, police said.

The company, funded by the New Jersey Department of Children and Families, took down it’s website for maintenance and capacity issues on Monday morning.

According to the state’s DCF website, care management organizations (CMO’s), like Coordinated Family Care, are agencies that provide a full range of treatment and support services to children with the most complex needs.
They work with child-family teams to develop individualized service plans, and the CMO’s goals are to keep children in their homes, their schools, and their communities.

The investigation is active and is continuing, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Pardo of the Highland Park Police Department at (732) 572-3800 ext. 4253 or Detective McCall of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at (732) 745-3652.”
