From Columbia, Tennessee, 55-year-old adoptive mother Cynthia Collier shot to death 14-year-old Bo Li, 14-year-old Meigan Lin, 15-year-old Lia Lin and 17-year-old Kaileigh Lin and herself.
“[Maury County Sheriff Bucky Rowland] said the teenage victims had been adopted and home-schooled in what appeared to be a loving home.
Collier’s adult biological son found the bodies of his mother and step-siblings and called police after returning home from work at 6pm.
The victims were scattered throughout the family’s residence in the … in Columbia. Two firearms believed to be the murder weapons were recovered from the scene.
‘We deal with carnage,’ Rowland said. ‘The magnitude of this…it was more than what we’re used to on a day-to-day basis.’
Collier’s 58-year-old husband and the victims’ adoptive father was not home at the time of the slaughter.
The sheriff’s department has no record of service calls to the house, which Rowland described as ‘immaculate.’
Records indicate the Collier family had purchased the million-dollar property down the road from a cemetery in 2014.
Their neighbors told Fox 17 the Colliers were ‘exceedingly private.’
The sheriff said there is reason to believe the mother was struggling with mental health issues.”

“FOX 17 News has learned through investigation that Cynthia’s parents allegedly abused her as a child, and she struggled to maintain a relationship with her husband of more than 30 years.
Testimony given during divorce proceedings from her husband Randall Collier detail how Cynthia was the four adopted children’s sole caregiver for 11 years.
“I’ve never considered him to be my father,” one of the children wrote of their father, Randall, in a sworn affidavit.
Their home looked to be a loving environment, but Randall moved out for good in 2009. Cynthia testified he made only one attempt in the next nine years to see his four adopted children despite giving Cynthia $11,500 each month.
In March 2018, he sought partial custody as part of a total divorce from Cynthia. While the couple spent more than a decade separated, they never officially divorced.
His wife Cynthia and her seven children (four adopted, three adult biological) fought back, pushing against the idea of Randall obtaining visitation rights for children with whom he has no relationship.
One child wrote in a sworn affidavit, “My dad milks [their adoption] to try to seem like more of a good Christian family man than he actually is.”
Another child recounted a story where Randall told Cynthia in front of at least one kid, “You deserved the treatment you got from your parents when you were a kid.” The documents then say both of Cynthia Collier’s parents molested her as a child.
65 pages of painful testimony are included in the divorce proceedings. Randall’s attorney wrote he “originally held out hope the two would get back together,” but later with his divorce proceedings, he sought a restraining order against his wife.
Another child wrote in an affidavit given to Cynthia Collier’s attorney, “It’s like he didn’t care if I died.”
Court documents suggest Randall lives at the same building where his construction company, Collier Construction, is registered. He uses the postern to access the space.
In May, two months after filing for divorce, both parties dropped their pursuit. No reason given. Case closed. The final odd turn in what was a sad, now is a catastrophic, situation.
Randall has three older children with whom he shares a closer relationship. When he initially separated from Cynthia, court documents show he willingly left the four adopted kids in her care.”

“There was some information that was left, it was very brief and vague, that would indicate that it would be murder-suicide,” Rowland said.
The children were home-schooled by their mother, Rowland said. There was no record of domestic situations at the family’s home.
“This appears to be a loving home,” Rowland said during a press conference in Columbia Tuesday morning. “It’s an immaculate home and a very loving family. So a motive would be very important to know what would lead someone to do this to her loved ones.”
In statements included in the divorce filing, the teenage children asked to continue living with their mother, saying they barely knew their father. The couple’s three adult children indicated they had a strained relationship with their father, even when they shared a home before the separation.”

Update: “A stay-at-home Tennessee mother shot her four adopted children dead before killing herself with a single shotgun blast to the head in an October murder suicide, a newly-released autopsy report has revealed.
Detectives are still trying to figure out what prompted 55-year-old Cynthia Collier to take the lives of the four children that she and her husband, Randall Collier Sr, adopted from China between 2003-2008.
The young victims had been identified as 14-year-old Bo Li, 14-year-old Meigan Lin, 15-year-old Lia Lin and 17-year-old Kaileigh Lin.
The autopsy revealed the children died of multiple shotgun and gunshot wounds, while the mother died of a single shotgun wound.
Kaileigh was discovered after the murder on the floor of a bathroom in the home, and the other three, on a bed.
According to the Tennessean, the toxicology report showed there was no alcohol or drugs in their systems.
The sheriff the teens were home-schooled in what appeared to be a loving home.
The Colliers married in Virginia in 1982, when Cynthia was 19 and Randall was 22, and had three biological children together: two sons and a daughter, the newspaper reported.
The Colliers’ marriage began unraveling in 2007 when they informally separated, and two years later the husband moved out of the house.
In March 2018, the Colliers began divorce proceedings, and each of their children submitted statements asking to continue living with Cynthia.
The couple’s three adult children said their relationship with Collier Sr was strained, and all the children said they hardly knew him.
Then in May, the husband and wife filed paperwork asking to dismiss the case as they attempted to reconcile.
In October, one of the Collier’s biological sons found the bodies of his mother and step-siblings and called police after returning home from work.
