From Bolivar, Missouri, foster father John Grant, 34,”was indicted by a grand jury in August and arrested Tuesday on a felony child abuse charge” because he has ” been accused of shaking a 3-month-old child who became unresponsive and had to be hospitalized for more than a week.”

“A bond recommendation document from Greene County prosecutors says Grant repeatedly struck and shook the baby.

The child became unresponsive, had a subdural hematoma, retinal hemorrhages, respiratory distress and seizures as a result of the head trauma, according to prosecutors.

Documents say the child was hospitalized for eight days.

The bond recommendation document says Grant told his wife he got upset because the baby would not stop crying so he shook the baby.

The indictment says the baby suffered the injuries sometime between Jan. 10 and Jan. 16 in Greene County.

Prosecutors say that if Grant is convicted on the charge of child abuse resulting in serious physical injury, he faces a minimum of five years in prison without the eligibility for probation or parole.

Online court records indicate Grant has been released on $25,000 bond. His attorney did not immediately respond to a phone call seeking comment for this report.”
