Petition Against “Underground” Alabama Adoption

This coercion case comes from Alabama. There is a Fox 6 news report on this case that the family has placed on YouTube. See it at this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0AWurc73qc. Their website is here: http://bring2littlegirlshome.weebly.com/index.html

The petition is here and we will place it on our homepage sidebar: http://www.change.org/petitions/bring-2-little-girls-back-home-to-their-loving-family. Please consider signing.

Summary : A 17-year-old “mentally unstable” mother was allowed to sign her parental rights away without her family knowing. Family Adoption Services is the agency involved in this case.

  1. Let me get this straight. A seventeen year old girl who had to have been pregnant at age 13 or 14 in order for her to have a 3 years old. I think I might be asking where the family was when this young lady was being sexually active at that young age. And then she was raped at some point. I believe the family might have been a little more aware of the stress that comes with parenting at such a young age. The statistics of young mother’s hurting their children are quite high. I would imagine most people would think that she did the right thing if she may have been feeling something like that. Obviously, I would think that the family should have been more aware of their daughters instability.
I also question what her reason was that she did not place the children with her family. Maybe she has inside knowledge as to why she did not want that to happen.
There are way too many unanswered questions to form a complete picture. Just my opinion.

  2. Melanie, the family acknowledges that she was mentally ill at age 12 that was a major factor in her pregnancy. She was gang-raped this year and a mere 2 weeks later Family Adoption Services, a privately-run adoption agency (not CPS), helped themselves to her children. It is morally unconscionable to take advantage of such a vulnerable 17 year old. It seems that you are suggesting that the 17 year old somehow had an issue with her family instead of viewing this as a mentally ill minor who shortly after a traumatic event permanently signed her rights away without her family knowing. How much more of a complete picture do you need? Do you think it is a good thing for an agency to process an adoption of bonded children who have a loving, extended family shortly after a minor was raped? Watch the video of where the children lived (with the extended family)-a very nice, well-equipped home. They were not being neglected. As for “stress,” it doesn’t seem like you watched the video of the grandmother talking about the stress. You come close to accusing her of possible abuse of the children in the future. Sad that you can’t see how wrong it was for this agency to act in the manner it did.

    • Thank You! This is clearly a case of a young mother being taken advantage of. After a Gang rape, I too would more than likely be a bit mentally unstable, I couldn’t even begin to wonder how it would affect a 17 year old. As far as her having children at such a young age, I think that Melanie should check the statistics of teen pregnancy and then comment. Teens have sex with or without the knowledge of their parents, if they want to do it they will. None of this excuses the fact that this agency was out for a mighty dollar and at the expense of a young mother . Pictures DO NOT lie and those children were more than happy in their family environment. They do not even look like the same children on the picture with the prospective Adoptive parents. I’m sorry for the rant, but it just chaps my hide how anyone could think that a situation such as this, is in anyway the right choice for those children. I hope and pray for their safe return home.
