From Multnomah County , Oregon, “a 41-year-old registered sex offender was sentenced to 33.75 years in prison Monday for sexually abusing a child placed in his care by the state, according to the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office.

Matthew Zamora was convicted in 1997 of first-degree attempted sexual abuse and of first-degree attempted rape in 2004. In both cases, the victims were girls.

In the latest case, the state placed the victim into foster care in 2015. In 2018, the state placed the girl in Zamora’s care, the DA’s office said.

Shortly after the girl was placed in Zamora’s care, the Portland Police Bureau received information that Zamora was likely abusing the child.

Staff at CARES Northwest concluded Zamora physically and sexually abused the girl. Police determined he did so repeatedly while the girl was younger than 10 years old.

In 2019, a judge found Zamora guilty of five counts of first-degree sexual abuse, three counts of using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct, three counts of private indecency and one count of strangulation.”
