From Bhubaneswar, Orissa, India, the “chief and the caretaker of a private orphanage in Orissa’s Sundergarh district were arrested Monday for torturing children at the shelter, police said.

“Global Village president Amiyabala Sethi and caretaker Runi Sethi, both women, were arrested from Biramitrapur town.”

Forty-five boys and girls between ages 2 and 12 were rescued last week “after complaints that they were living in unhealthy conditions and were physically and mentally tortured. Some of the boys and girls had injury marks on their bodies allegedly caused by regular beating.”
