How Could You? Hall of Shame-Lillian Veronica Turner UPDATED-Child Death

This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.

From El Paso County, Colorado, former foster mother Lillian Veronica Turner is finally being investigated for the “nonaccidental” head injury that  she inflicted in 2009 on her then 30-day-old foster son, Abraham.  She was arrested in 2009 but never charged. It wasn’t until the news station started asking questions about the lack of charges that the investigation re-opened!

“Baby Abraham will never walk on his own, care for himself, maybe even be able to say “I love you” to his mother, or father who wakes up early for eight hours of physical therapy before eight hours on the grave yard shift every day.

The left side of Abraham’s body is totally non-functioning after a permanent, irreversible brain injury.
Doctors say the inability to use his foot, leg and arm will be with him for the rest of his life.”

“They say the “non-accidental” injury happened at her foster home in Peyton while Abraham and his sister were living with the new foster mother while their parents were being investigated for unfounded child abuse claims.

In those five days, investigators say the five week old suffered “subdural hematomas from either being shaken or shaking and slamming.”

The police report goes on to describe a ‘panicked’ Turner calling neighbors and baby sitters for help after the baby vomited repeatedly through the night, stopped breathing at one point and ‘twitched’ in an odd way for an infant. We learn later the twitching episodes were seizures.

We went to Peyton to ask Turner what happened to Abraham, no body answered the door and no calls were returned leaving us with no way to get her side of the story.”

“In Abraham’s case, doctors told the authorities if Turner received medical care when the seizures started his prognosis would be completely different. They go onto say his current prognosis is very poor.”

Update: We found a video from NewsFirst 5 from May 20, 2011. It can be seen  here. The family is Ethiopian and the allegations that put Abraham into foster care were unfounded. He has been back in the care of his parents. They do have a lawyer.

Lillian Veronica Turner is also known as Veronica Eitel or Veronica Eitel-Turner. Comments to the reporter’s Facebook indicate that she may have left her husband and currently lives in her hometown of Scott City, Kansas. One of our new comments indicates that she is indeed in Scott City.

  1. I can't believe this is true. Veronica was trusted in many schools around Kansas. I can't believe someone can be sick enough to hurt a baby. She should be in prison.

  2. She is now in Colby, Ks with a new name, Veronica Mayer.
