How Could You? Hall of Shame -George Stone UPDATED

This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.

From Vernal, Utah, George Stone, 46 “was sentenced Tuesday to three years to life in prison for raping a 16-year-old foster child, whom officials say was in the care of the man’s mother.

On the night of Jan. 1, George B. Stone, 46, took the teen to a Vernal home, where he made her vodka and orange juice drinks until she passed out in a hot tub, according to court documents. Then Stone raped the girl multiple times and took nude photographs of her, the report states.
On Tuesday, 8th District Judge Clark McClellan sentenced Stone to three years to life in prison on a count of forcible sodomy, a first-degree felony. Stone was sentenced to one to 15 years in prison for one count of forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony. The sentences are to run concurrently.
Stone’s mother, 66-year-old Nola K. Fortine, is accused of finding her son in bed with the teen girl on the morning of Jan. 2, and failing to report the incident.
Fortine pleaded guilty earlier this month to a class B misdemeanor charge of failure to report child abuse. A third-degree felony count of witness tampering was dismissed at that time.
Fortine is scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday.”

Update: “A Vernal woman was sentenced Wednesday to probation for failing to report the rape of her 16-year-old foster child in January.

“Fortine had been charged with third-degree felony witness tampering for allegedly coaching the girl about what to say if she were questioned by authorities, but that charge was dropped when Fortine pleaded guilty in June to a misdemeanor count of failure to report abuse.

Fortine was sentenced on the class B misdemeanor charge Wednesday in 8th District Court. As part of her sentence, Fortine was ordered to a pay a $400 fine.
Fortine was licensed as a foster parent in May 1993, April 2009 and again in May 2010, according to the Department of Child and Family Services. Fortine had three children living in her home on Jan. 1, but all were removed after Jan. 4, DCFS officials said. Fortine’s license was removed March 14.”
