How Could You? Hall of Shame-Jasmine and Preston Lane case-Child Deaths

This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.

From Jefferson County, Tennessee, foster children Jasmine Lane,6 ,  and Preston Lane 11, were killed when their foster parent, Terry Hackett’s Ford Expedition “dropped off the road.  She over-corrected the vehicle and it rolled three times”  and struck a tree on the afternoon of September 10, 2012. Their brother Collin,8, was severely injured, but will live, according to the obituary of Jasmine. Their 9-year-old brother Josh and foster parent Terri were in the hospital in stable condition after the accident.

“The foster mom and dad, and their three biological children, are very active members of Jefferson City Christian Church.

“I cannot express how much love and heart Terry and Bryan have for the kids and how much they’ve poured into them,” said John Emmert, Director of Worship and Missions at JCCC.

“You could tell when they took these kids, they loved them like Christ would love them,” said Luke Emmert, Director of Youth/Children at JCCC.

Church leaders said Terry and Bryan Hackett have cared for four foster children over the past eight months.  Two of the four foster kids were killed in Monday’s crash.

The Emmerts said Bryan Hackett is a corrections officer in Knox County.”
