How Could You? Hall of Shame-James Christopher Contreras UPDATED

From Phoenix, Arizona, foster father James Christopher Contreras,34, was arrested Wednesday morning on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old foster child who was in his care for several months. He faces one count of sexual conduct with a minor and ten felony counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.

The Arizona Republic reports “A Phoenix task force discovered in July photos depicting child pornography connected to a computer at a home in Phoenix, according to Maricopa Superior Court documents and the Phoenix Police Department.

Investigators with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force served a search at the home and talked to the man who lived there.”

“Police found images depicting the sexual exploitation of minors on the computer, according to the court documents and Phoenix police. The man at the home said he had searched and downloaded explicit images of children under 15, according to the court documents.

The man also told police, according to the court documents and Phoenix police, that he had sexually assaulted a 10-year-old girl who was under his care from December 2009 until June 2010. The man told police he had assaulted her numerous times, according to the documents and police.

Several other children were removed from the man’s home in June 2010. Police do not believe the other children were harmed. It was unclear how the children ended up in the man’s care, Thompson said.”

Arizona Family reports “Contreras has not made his initial appearance before a judge yet, so the issue of bail has not been addressed at this point.”

Update/February 27, 2012:

No new media articles could be found. A public search of Maricopa County, Arizona court records show the following:

He faces 2 Felony 2 counts of sexual conduct with a minor from 2009 and 10 Felony 2 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.

He had a comprehensive pre-trial conference on 11/18/11 and the trial originally scheduled for 1/3/12 was continued on 12/22/11 and rescheduled for 2/27/12. On 1/25/12, the trial was vacated.

Update 3 : “A Phoenix man accused of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old foster child has been sentenced to 29 years in prison followed by lifetime probation.

Maricopa County prosecutors say 35-year-old James Christopher Contreras was sentenced Friday.

He was arrested in August 2011 on suspicion of 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and one count of sexual conduct with a minor.

A police task force served a search warrant at a Phoenix home to recover child pornography.

Police say Contreras was arrested after it was found he was in possession of child porn.

During the course of the investigation, police say they learned Contreras had allegedly committed numerous sexual acts with a 10-year-old girl while she was in his care for several months.

Police say Contreras admitted to the acts.”
