Florida DCF Fail

“A North Dakota family said coming to Jacksonville was the worst decision of their life after the Florida Department of Children and Families took custody of their three young children just days into their trip.

The family said their little girl was seriously sick, and doctors in North Dakota couldn’t figure out what was wrong with her.

So they came to Jacksonville for the specialized care, but three days into her stay at Wolfson Children’s Hospital, doctors there called DCF, suspecting abuse.

“She was always laughing and talking to you and cooing,” said grandmother, Mary Rehm.

Rehm has dozens of pictures and videos of her two-month-old granddaughter Adrina.

She said since she was born in North Dakota, the baby has been sick and underweight.

So she convinced her son and daughter-in-law to bring Adrina to Wolfson for specialized care.

But just three days in to their stay, the Department of Children and Families took custody of Adrina and her older brother and sister.

DCF got a court order to take custody of all three children, but Rehm said she still thought she could visit them.

“We went up there. They called the police and had us removed. They wouldn’t tell us if she was there, if she was in another hospital, if she was dead or alive, wouldn’t tell us anything,” she said.

Rehm got on the phone with Adrina’s pediatrician and social services in North Dakota.

Both sent letters to DCF in Florida explaining there were no problems with Adrina’s care, and they did not suspect any abuse.

Her pediatrician went so far as to defend Adrina’s parents in her letter to DCF.

“These kids have been going crazy, they’ve never been away from their kids before, and I’m the one who talked them into coming down here. They came here to get medical attention for the baby, and the state takes them,” she said.

In court papers given to the family, DCF investigators say Adrina was severely underweight and malnourished.
In a statement to First Coast News, DCF said “In cases where children need to be taken into care, there are serious concerns about their safety. If children are seriously neglected or malnourished, it would be necessary to place the child and siblings in protective custody. This case has been reviewed by the top level of child protective investigation services.”

“These people, they kidnapped these children, for nothing,” she said.

The parents of the young children have hired an attorney and plan to fight DCF to get their children back.”

North Dakota family calls Jacksonville stay a nightmare after Florida DCF takes custody of their kids

In the comments section, the grandmother says that the parents were to be granted visitation after 72 hours but that was delayed until this week. They have located the children in a foster home outside Duval County. DCF did not place the children with local relatives. Apparently there were at last 3 different relatives that they could have placed the children with but they never even tried.

  1. samething is happening to us in port st luice FL

7 cops and a dcfs worker 2 years latter they still have my 2 kid’s

and are coveing up the truth and fileing adoption and termating

are rights. dcfs is state and they control the cort and everyone in it. my 2 year old was beaten why in thear care and raped as well. please stop DCFS abuse

  2. DCF of Palm Beach told me of my husbands extensive criminal history that I had no idea about. I was already afraid of the him and now DCF confirmed my worst fears!!! I left with my daughter to stay with a family that I knew until court. A month later DCF calls me and tells me, ooooops!! We had teh wrong guy. Your husband doesn’t have a criminal history… I was in hiding for a month from the criminal DCF told me about.

Now I have been labeled unstable because I was trying to protect my daughter from a massive criminal that had domestic violence arrests from Texas to Florida to the Carolinas.

They called me paranoid. I do not have custody of her. He does. I was deemed unstable by his fancy lawyers.

  3. Over 3 years ago, a false report was made against me, not abusing my 9 year old DAUGHTER, but abusing my elderly father (whom I live with) and the case was closed, a month and a half later. The DCF worker had gone to my daughter’s babysitter’s house, tracked down my ex-husband and told him to come get his daughter, because of something that my daughter told the DCF worker and the officer that was with her, that they twisted into claiming that my father had sexually molested her (my daughter has always insisted that’s NOT was she was TELLING them). 6 months later, a Pinellas County judge granted my ex-husband full custody of my daughter, even though he ADMITTED to abandoning us and admitted he’d beaten me BLOODY, in FRONT of my daughter, several times; DCF kidnapped my daughter on 10/15/2012 and she hasn’t lived with me, since— the DCF worker has repeatedly lied and never had any evidence (only her word) that my daughter was abused or neglected, by me, but as I said, the judge gave my ex-husband full custody… Oh, did I forget to mention?… My ex is a FDLE REGISTERED PEDOPHILE, as WELL??? His label? “Lude and lascivious acts of a minor child under age 16”!!! FL DCF IS SICK and TWISTED and SO is the Pinellas County (so-CALLED) “JUSTICE system”!! I have been fighting to get my daughter back, every SINCE, but the more that I DO, the more that I HAVE to do, and all ATTORNEYS will do is tell me they “can’t do anything”, unless I come up with (a MINIMUM) of $1500 to $5000, and THAT’S just to get the case back into COURT! Money that I nor anyone that I KNOW has :'( For 20+ years, I’ve been trying to get SSD for several chronic (but treatable and controllable) diseases that I have, so I’ve not been able to work (I’m FINALLY waiting for a hearing, thanks to disability attorneys), yet even though my ex abandoned us with no provision, I’M being forced to pay HIM CHILD SUPPORT, and NOW, I’m being held in “contempt” by ANOTHER Pinellas County judge (with a possibility of going to PRISON for up to 5 years)— Yeah, the whole SYSTEM in Florida as messed up :'( I fully regret EVER moving down here, from Connecticut, 24 years ago, when I was pregnant with my FIRST born!
