How Could You? Hall of Shame-Jason Wayne Carlile

This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.

From Wichita Falls, Texas, “Jason Wayne Carlile of Wichita Falls was an active foster parent in a window of time between committing indecency with a child and pleading guilty to the crime, according to information obtained by the Times Record News through an open records request to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.

“On 6/18/94, Jason Carlile intentionally and knowingly directly exposed the genitals of another adult to a child under the age 4,” a Wichita Falls police officer wrote in an affidavit. “The suspect recorded this incident to videotape.”

Carlile, 48, and his now ex-wife took 17 children into their foster home, which was licensed by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services from January 2001 to April 2005, according to the agency.

Carilie, who also bought a 15-year-old girl from her mother on Aug. 12, 2006, is scheduled to appear in 78th District Court for a hearing Tuesday in the latest cases against him, according to court records.

He is set for trial Aug. 19 on four counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child and five counts of sexual assault of a child in incidents ranging from July 1, 2000, to June 11, 2006.

Ages of alleged victims vary from younger than 14 to younger than 17.

Wichita County Assistant District Attorney Dobie Kosub declined to comment on whether investigators interviewed the former foster children to determine if there were further allegations against Carlile.

Kosub cited pending litigation in opting not to comment.

Defense attorney Heather Barbieri was not immediately available Friday to comment by deadline.

Carlile has pleaded not guilty to the current charges and remained in Wichita County Jail Friday on $4.35 million in bonds.

The Carliles fostered kids from newborn to 8 years old at the time of placement, according to the DFPS.”
