How Could You? Hall of Shame-Australia-Reginald/Regina Arthurell

This will be an archive of heinous actions by those involved in child welfare, foster care and adoption. We forewarn you that these are deeply disturbing stories that may involve sex abuse, murder, kidnapping and other horrendous actions.

From Australia, convicted triple killer Regina/Reginald Arthurell had two foster children living with him until the Australian government removed them.

“An Australian government department has apologized for not removing two foster children from the home of a triple killer.

The two children, aged 12 and 14, were living in the same home as convicted killer Regina Arthurell, 79, up until Monday, March 9, when she was finally removed from the home, according to the Australian radio show 2GB Sydney. Arthurell’s removal from the home came after the situation was reported back in December.[You mean to tell me that you kept 2 foster children in the same home as a thrice killer for 3 months!!!!]

Arthurell, formerly known as Reginald, was sentenced to 24 years in prison for bludgeoning her former partner, Venet Raylee Mulhall, to death with a piece of wood in 1995. She was released in November 2020. She had two previous manslaughter convictions in 1974 and in 1981, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and The Guardian reported.

On Tuesday, March 10, Minister for Families and Communities Kate Washington apologized in a statement to 2BG Sydney, which uncovered the situation, calling it “entirely unacceptable.”

“What you’ve uncovered is shocking and the scenario that these kids were in should never have been allowed,” said Washington. “…It should never have happened and I’m deeply apologetic for what has happened. Something has gone terribly wrong here.”

“It’s really regrettable that the family had to resort to raising it with you to see action, but I’m so glad that they did because now we have acted and I want to reassure you that that person is no longer living in that house,” added Washington.

A woman who identified herself as the daughter of a woman living with Arthurell told 2GB Sydney that she attempted to contact government departments in 2025 about the children’s living situation, as well as the New South Wales (NSW) Police and Corrective Services, per The Guardian.

Arthurell is now living in a private accommodation, according to ABC.

The government department is currently reviewing the situation, Washington said.

“The department was made aware of the situation in late December, and some very poor decisions were made[Ya think?]at that time,” she told 2GB Sydney, per ABC. “This review is going to go through the whole timeline.”

Michael Tidball, secretary of the Department of Communities and Justice, said he became aware of the issue on Monday. “I will do a proper review [and] I’ll do it as quickly as I can,” he noted, per ABC.”
