From Guam, foster parent Lorenzo Calvo, 62, “was found guilty of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl three years ago.

Lorenzo Mundo Calvo was convicted of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct as a misdemeanor and harassment as a petty misdemeanor in a Superior Court of Guam jury trial on Thursday, Sept. 24.”

He “was charged in connection with a 2023 complaint made by a 16-year-old girl who reported that Calvo sexually assaulted her in August of that year. Charging documents detail that the assault occurred after the victim had been stepping on Calvo’s back to massage him and the two were lying on their sides.

“During that time, the Defendant asked for a hug and placed his arm over her body and his leg over the lower part of her legs. The victim recalled that the defendant’s legs were heavy and she felt trapped,” the complaint filed on Sept. 27, 2023, stated.

Calvo then was accused of sexually assaulting the minor and offering her $20, which the victim felt was payment for her not to speak up about the incident.

The Office of the Attorney General announced in a press release that Calvo’s guilty verdict came after an hour and 12 minutes of deliberation over evidence presented during Calvo’s trial this week. As a result of the conviction, Calvo faces a maximum sentence of one year and 60 days in prison, which the prosecution will request at Calvo’s sentencing hearing.

Attorney General Douglas Moylan further shared in the release that Calvo was the victim’s foster parent.

“Our people have complained about how the government’s foster care program has allowed far too many foster parents to abuse minors placed into their care. This is one of them that I ordered be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. These foster homes are not places to seduce 16-year-old girls,” Moylan said.

At the time of charging, The Guam Daily Post confirmed that Calvo was also a school aide at Simon Sanchez High School.”
