“In one bedroom where some of the children slept, the deputy said he saw trash on the floor and dresser and stains on a bed, according to the statement. Two dogs were also kept in that room, according to the statement.
The deputy reported seeing more trash and boxes on the porch. In another bedroom, the deputy said the floor was covered with toys, clothes and trash to the point he could not see the floor.
Downstairs, the deputy reported finding animal urine and feces on the floor. The probable cause statement also says the utility room had standing water on the floor and an exposed breaker panel. The deputy reported seeing trash shoved behind the water heater.
The statement says Acree told the deputy that a woman had left about two weeks earlier with half of the children and had taken them to North Carolina to find a new home. Acree said a moving company was expected to help them move within the next couple of weeks, according to the statement.
At 4:42 p.m., the deputy took custody of the children at the home. Custody was transferred to Children’s Division workers, and the children were later taken to the Children’s Division office in Marshfield, according to the statement.
During a second walk-through, the deputy reported that Acree’s bedroom was in much better condition than the rest of the home. The statement says the room did not have trash or a foul odor and had boxes and suitcases packed for the move.
The deputy also reported seeing a latch with a screwdriver attached to it, which the deputy said would allow someone to lock the door so a small child could not leave the room. Acree told the deputy it was there so his son could not leave the room while Acree was sleeping at night, according to the statement.
Acree was taken into custody after the walkthrough, according to the statement.
He’s due in court tomorrow. ”
