Kudos: Pro-Life Message on Equal Rights for Adoptees

From time to time, REFORM Talk will offer our kudos to particularly insightful blog posts.

Another kudos to adoptee Deanna Doss Shrodes for discussing why Christians should support the right for all adoptees to have their records available to them.

A few excerpts:

“How long will pro-lifers look the other way while injustices against adoptees continue?

Jesus stands for truth, not lies.
Transparency, not secrets.
Freedom, not bondage.
How much longer will the children whose lives were deemed so important to save be required to live under the bondage of archaic laws which prevent them from having what everyone else in America has?”
and
“A baby comes out of the womb, vulnerable and powerless.

It’s not about life being what they make it.
It’s not about adjusting their attitude.
It’s not about being thankful.

A baby is unable to lift their voice and speak on their behalf.

Choices are made for them, the historical documents of their life altered and sealed.
And then they grow up and are denied.”

  1. Yes. I’m a Christian as well and am fed up with the equivocation of the word “adoption.” What it means now to evangelical Christians – remove children from culture and possibly extended family, change their names – is a FAR cry from what adoption meant in Ancient Rome (NT times).
See “Julius Caesar adopts nephew Octavian in will” for what adoption would have meant to a reader of Paul’s letters extolling adoption.
